Amritsar, July 7
The Punjab Bus Metro Society (PBMS) has been planning to install fabricated toilets at the metro bus stations of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
The MC has been installing urinals and toilets at various locations of the city under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Officials of the PBMS want fabricated toilets at the metro stations as most of the terminals have enough space to install one or two booths. Officials also want installation of bins.
PBMS officials have taken up the issue with MC officials for sanctioning the toilets. However, there is a hurdle in the implementation of the proposal. The Public Works Department (PWD) did not provide water and sewerage connection to the metro stations while constructing the BRTS corridors.
Inderjeet Singh Chawla, Chief Executive Officer, BRTS, Amritsar, said, “We have a proposal to provide the facility of public convenience at the metro bus stations. We have space but sewerage connections are not there. It will not be easy to provide water and sewerage at the station which are in the mid of the roads.”
Authorities have to spent a lot to provide water and sewerage connection. “We are planning to install biodegradable toilets. but it is on preliminary process. We will what can be done,” said Inderjeet Singh Chawla, CEO, BRTS.
