A petrol pump employee was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne persons who tried to loot cash from him at Shamnagar village in Majitha here today.
The victim, identified as Anil Pal (45), died on the spot. He originally hailed from Bihar and was at present living in the New Preet Nagar area here. The incident occurred at 4 pm.
J Elanchezian, SSP, Amritsar rural police, said that police teams were working on different theories and efforts were on to identify and arrest the culprits.
As per details, two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons came at Padam Sewa Kender filling station at Shamnagar and asked Anil to fill petrol worth Rs 100 in the bike. However, when he demanded money from them, they entered into an argument and tried to snatch the bag containing cash from him. When he resisted and shouted for help, other employees of the petrol pump rushed towards him. Alarmed over this, the accused took out a pistol and shot Anil in the head leaving him critically injured. He died on the spot, said the SSP.
There was no CCTV camera installed at the filling station. The SSP said the owner of the petrol pump said that the camera had gone for repairs. He said that the police have registered a case of murder and robbery in this connection while further investigations were under progress.
