The drug wing of the Health Department has seized 13 kinds of medicines from a chemist shop in Tarn Taran here today. Drug inspector Bableen Kaur who raided the shop said all the seized medicines were ‘physician’s samples’ which were not allowed to be sold on the counter.
She said medicines had been seized from Jai Maa Medical store. The drug inspector also found the qualified pharmacist missing from the shop.
“The sale of medicines cannot be made except by a qualified pharmacist who is required to be present at the shop all the time,” she said, adding that an unqualified person was found selling Schedule H1 drugs without prescription. The persons present at the shop also failed to produce any sale records to the team.
The team also checked Kuljit Medicos where sale records of the past six months were found absent. “Keeping sale and purchase records of the medicines is mandatory for the chemists and these are required to be shown to the inspecting teams,” she said.
Bableen Kaur said a communication had been sent to State Drug Authority regarding the seizure and other irregularities found at the two chemist shops. She said the seized medicines would be produced in court to take into possession.
