The All India Pingalwara Charitable Society has opened its first school for children with hearing disability at a gurdwara in Garhshankar, Hoshiarpurt. The gurdawara is under the SGPC.

The aim of involving gurdawaras is to compensate for the absence of professional schools for the deaf children in the state. At present, sign language is taught in six schools in which 270 students study. The society had urged the gurdawaras to allow them space to conduct classes.
