The Nirbhaya rape case jolted the entire country, shook even the most insensitive among us to the core and initiated legal reforms against violent acts against women. And so the play ‘Delhi Road Tey Ek Hadsa’, by Pali Bhupinder reflected upon the gruesome incident and critically analysed the impact it had on people.

The play begins with a description of the incident and moves on to not pass judgments, but provokes thoughts through sensitive dialogues and stage work. Condemning violent crimes against women, the director attempted to present the psychological effects on victims and the general condition of hysteria created by the media and social forums around it. The play didn’t work on a particular story line, but highlighted the overall brutality that women have to face, despite living in a so-called advanced, civilised century.

Actors Hardeep Gill and Anita Devgan, who organised the festival, also congratulated the participants and guests for their support. “All the plays featured in the festival put local theatre talent in spotlight as they should be encouraged,” Devgan said.

Social activist Baba Bhagwant Bhajan was the chief guest at the play.
