Plays at Virsa Vihar draw applause

The Malwa Art and Cultural Society, Chandigarh, presented a play ‘Begane Bohar Dee Chhaan’ as part of the 15th National Theatre Festival being held at Virsa Vihar in the city today. It was the ninth play of the festival. Written by Prof Ajmer Aulakh and directed by Pritam Singh Rupal, the play revolves around the story of a debt-ridden farmer. The story particularly focuses on poor farmers and labour class working in the farms. The play reaches its climax when the farmer’s family is forced to adopt violent means for getting its rights. The condition of farmer depicts the condition of other farmers across the state.
Artistes Jagjit Singh Shergill, Parminder Kaur, Amarjit Kaur and others performed in the play.
A day before, a play — A Blind Date — was staged here. Presented by theatre group Naatrang Amritsar, it highlighted the role played by destiny in our lives through a love story of a couple.
The light-hearted comedy is a story of a boy named Abhishek, who had a crush on a girl, Rimi, since his schooldays, but fails to express his emotions. But destiny brings them together again after seven years.
Written by Pargat Singh, the play progresses as Abhishek gathers courage to express his love for Rimi. The play has been directed by Vishu Sharma, who has been active in theatre circles for the past 10 years.
The theatre festival will continue till March 5.
