Two unidentified armed robbers critically injured a plumber, who was returning to the city from Jandiala Guru after finishing his work late last evening. The robbers also took away Rs 18,000 from him.
The victim was identified as Satish Kumar (37), a resident of Model Town on Chheharta Road. Kumar, stated to the police that he had gone to Jalluwal village for doing some sanitary work. He was returning home on his bike with Rs 18,000 in cash.
He said when he reached near Manawala toll plaza, two unknown motorcyclists came and attacked him with a datar (sharp-edged weapon). However, he resisted the attack and entered into a scuffle with them despite being injured. In the scuffle, one of the robbers fell unconscious while he continued to fight with the other one. However, the unconscious robber soon regained his senses and fired a shot at Kumar, which hit his leg and he collapsed. The robber duo then attacked him with sharp-edged weapons on his head, arms and legs. They snatched his cash and fled from the spot.
He was rushed to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in a serious condition. He sustained bullet and sharp-weapon injuries on his arms, legs and head. The police have registered a case on the charge of attempt to murder, robbery and under the Arms Act against unknown persons. Sarabjit Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Sections 307, 379-B (2)and 34 of IPC and Section 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered.
