Concerned over the repeated firing incidents and murderous attack on a former councillor in the Gujjarpura area, the city police have launched a manhunt to arrest Bobby Malhotra, who is member of notorious Sonu Kangla gang, headed by Bhupinder Singh alias Sonu Kangla.
Kangla was arrested by the Tarn Taran police recently. Some of his accomplices are still out of the reach of the police. Malhotra has been evading arrest for the past couple of years.
He along with his accomplices had opened fire at Rahul Kumar alias Hariya, a resident of Harijan Colony, located outside Gilwali Gate, at the Kot Mangal Singh area, when he was going to an eating joint recently. Among those who were booked in the case, include Malhotra and Gaurav Kaddu, both residents of Gilwali Gate, Dharminder Singh and Resham Singh, alias Fauji, of Maqboolpura, Sajan of Gilwali Gate, Masti of Guru Bazaar, besides four unidentified persons.
According to police officials, before this Malhotra had pumped several bullets in former councillor Jojginder Pal Ginda in the Gujjarpura area, when he was sitting outside his shop on January 12. The police booked four persons on charges of attempt to murder and the Arms Act. Those booked include Anoop, Anand, Nagina and Bobby Malhotra. It was second time that Ginda was targeted by the culprits. Earlier, they had shot him in August 2015. He had sustained bullet injury in his stomach, but had survived.
Police officials said Malhotra suspected that Ginda and Hariya were behind the murder to their gang member, Sangam.
Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh said officials of Division C, Civil Lines, Sultanwind police stations, besides the CIA staff had formed team to nab Malhotra and his accomplices, who were evading arrest for a long time and creating trouble for the people, besides law and order problem. He said patrolling in the Gujjarpura area had been started and security was also provided to the victims.
