Police search railway station
Amritsar: In view of the festive season, the city police on Monday carried out a search operation at railway station and other vital public places here. The police have strengthened the security in the holy city with check points have been installed at every entry and exit points. Vehicles are being checked while all the officials were directed to remain alert to thwart any untoward incident. The police were already on high alert in view of the current scenario following the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A. TNS
Trader robbed of scooter
Amritsar: Four unidentified persons allegedly assaulted and snatched scooter of a trader, who was returning home from his factory located at Gurwali village on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran road. The victim, Kurnesh Juneja, in his complaint to the police said, “He runs a PC polymer factory at Gurwali village.” He said yesterday when he was returning home from his factory on his scooter and reached near Punjab Dairy, four persons came on two bikes and intercepted him. They attacked him, snatched his scooter and fled from the scene, he said. TNS
1,200 apply for cracker licence
Amritsar: Over 1,200 applications were submitted to the district administration for obtaining licences for the setting up of a retail firecracker market ahead of Diwali and Gupurb. A draw of lot will be held on October 10. People from varied professions like politicians, jewellers, automobile vehicle seat cover makers, vegetable sellers and others have applied for the licence..
