He said employees had decided to continue the protest till all persons were arrested. A few persons has misbehaved with senior medical officer and in charge of Civil Hospital, Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai, over the issue of getting an anti rabies vaccine yesterday. Later, the hospital staff had initiated protest demanding arrest of all accused.

It is not for the first time that such instances of misbehaviour and manhandling of doctors at government hospitals have come to light. Earlier, too, in 2013, a doctor was beaten badly and abused by relative of a person injured in a brawl. The police had set up a picket at the place, but later guards were removed. Such cases have been reported from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital too.

General secretary of the PCMS Specialist Doctors Association, Dr Sandeep Aggarwal, said, “There should be permanent posting of police personnel at the hospital especially during the night time.” The hospital staff, particularly female employees, is under a great stress due to such incidents, which occur when they are on duty.
