Amritsar, November 30

A hoarding urging people to plant more trees having pictures of elected representatives of the government has replaced the hoarding of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Panorama recently. However, what irks residents more is that it was the only board which attracted tourists to visit the historic Rambagh Heritage Garden, at the heart of the holy city.

“The city residents feel that most historic places in city are not well advertised and as a result tourists often miss them. Tourists mainly come to visit Golden Temple and Wagah border only as they don’t know about other historical sites in the city. But if all the other historical places are properly advertised, it can give a huge fillip to the tourism industry,” said a local resident.

The local hoteliers and even the government has been trying hard to prolong the stay of the tourists for the past many years. The government had added up many new attractions as Gobindgarh Fort, Sada Pind, War Memorial in this regard. However, residents feel that historical sites in the holy city should be well advertised and signboards at regular intervals with brief information should be installed.
