A group of 20 powerloom industrialists and artisans from the holy city will travel to Varanasi in February to learn about latest machinery and market there. Powerloom Sewa Kendar assistant director Sanjay Charak said the entire project was financed by the Union Ministry of Textile under its power loom sector development planning. He anticipated that power loom operators and employees would make most of the opportunity to excel in their profession.

He said the interested candidates could submit their names at Powerloom Sewa Kendar on Polytechnic Road in Chheharta before January 15. These candidates once selected would travel to ancient town of Varanasi, situated on the banks of Ganga, he added. He said they would see the working of sophisticated powerlooms and machines in Varanasi. Besides, they would also visit the textile market to get a feel of trading there, he added.

Their meeting with leading textile industrialists and their organisations would also be arranged. Charak anticipated that the proposed trip would be extremely helpful in learning new techniques, ways of trade and textiles products. He said visitors could employ these new methods in rolling out new varieties of products at their units.

Members of the Textile Manufacturers Association Amritsar welcomed the scheme. They said the number of persons to be included in the group was small. More persons must be accommodated in the trip to keep them abreast with new developments in the profession, they added.
