Prominent persons pay tributes to Shiv Batalvi

The summer art camp/festival 2015 has entered the fourth week with great success. The Sunday evening witnessed opening of an exhibition of paintings by Bhupinder Nanda and Sukhpal Singh. The exhibition was inaugurated by IAFA president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina.

As many as 25 paintings have been displayed for the citizen and will be remained on display for three days. Demonstration of sculpture-making by senior artists OP Verma, Narinder Singh and Sanjay Kumar was also held for budding artists.

In the evening, tributes were paid to Shiv Kumar Batalvi, an evergreen poet, singer and star of the Punjabi literature. The event, ‘Shiv Kumar Batalvi - Birha Tu Sultan’, was an introduction of this great poet to the young generation. To pay tributes to Late Shiv Batalvi, a galaxy of elite audience gathered in the auditorium, most of them were contemporary to Batalvi but had some connection with him or his art work or are big fans of him.

Padma Shri Dr Daljit Singh, IAFA president S Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and Mohinderjit Singh, chairman, IAFA, chaired the function while Parminder Singh Rai, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Gurpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Music, GNDU, were among those others present.

Artiste and Shiromani awardee Jatinder Kaur, Harinder Sohal, singer and music director; Richa Aneja of ‘Indian Idol’ fame, Meenu Rathod, winner of the Rafi memorial award for the best singer; Sumit Dhillon, winner of the Buland awaaz; Mani Kumar, renowned singer, and many young artistes entertained the audience.

A recorded interview of Batalvi was screened to the much applause and verses of the popular poet were shared on stage by the guests. His Punjabi verse play ‘Luna’ was remembered through its parts along with other famous poetry.
