The Punjab School Education Board’s (PSEB) instructions regarding evaluation of answer sheets of students has left a few teachers fuming. As per the rule, a teacher has to check 75 answer sheets in three days, means 25 per day.
A lecturer has to upload students’ marks in a mobile application introduced by the PSEB. The steps have been taken to deliver results within 15 days of the culmination of examination.
At present, four centres have been set up to examine the papers of Class XII students. The district education authorities have made all necessary arrangements to ensure proper and fair checking process. The timings to check papers have been kept from 8 am to 8 pm.
Aman Sharma, president of the Government School Lecturers’’ Union, said, “The timings are too long. I can understand that lecturers have to meet a certain target but such long timings can’’t be justified. It will be a problem for the female staff.”
District science supervisor and nodal officer for evaluation centres, Sudeep Kaur, said, “We have established four centres. The number of staff at the centres will depend upon the subjects. To check English papers, 100 lecturers have been deputed.”
Regarding the timings of the evaluation, she said, “There is nothing wrong with the time. It will take that long to check papers properly. However, if the concered staff is checking correctly and updating as per the new system. They can leave. But on an average there is nothing wrong with the timings.”
