Amritsar, March 12
Though the civic body has installed public toilets and urinals six months ago at the historic Company Bagh, these are yet to be made functional. Earlier, residents had appreciated the MC move as it was a long- pending demand of visitors at the garden.
Showing concern over public inconvenience, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has installed toilet booths at the Company Bagh in October 2016.
The garden was deprived of this facility for a long time.
Earlier the MC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Amritsar Improvement Trust for renovation of Company Bagh. An NGO had installed the toilets. The water connection and other requirements were provided by the MC.
A large number of residents along with their children used to visit the park during morning and evening hours. The residents are now demanding to make the toilets functional as soon as possible.
Gurdeep Singh, a visitor at the Company Bagh, said: “The MC has spent crores on the development of the garden but failed to make the toilets functional. The MC’s initiative of installing toilet booths in the garden is appreciable, but these should be made functional.”
“The residents are urinating openly in the absence of functional urinals. Hence, the MC should provide this facility to the visitors,” said Anand, a resident.
