A woman can be as soft as air and as hard as a tornado. The men, on the other hand, can just think of dominating, but they can never do. We, the women, were equal and will always be. That’s what Punjabi Actor Mandy Takkar is singing about in her debut single, “Main hawa hoon”. The popular pretty face of the Punjabi cinema is making her singing debut with a song, themed on women empowerment and with influential lyrics, and it is already a hit. The Hindi single, which went online on YouTube has been penned by Baljinder S Mahant, who is also director of the Punjabi music videos.
Not following any trend, Mandy says the song is an encouragement for everything that a woman achieves in her life. She says, “I don’t know why women are looked down upon. Every corner of the world is talking about empowering them, but there is hardly any effort in that direction. I made up my mind to be instrumental in this and met the team of FilmyShots, where we decided to come out with this song.”
The song was featured in the background in the last short film of the channel ‘Goonj’. Mandy played the lead girl in the film. She said a digital release of her song would enable the song to reach maximum people, without spending a penny.
The woman behind the concept, Prabhjot Kaur, said, “We not only wanted to give a song or an anthem to women, but actually present it as a thought. This song will act on their psychology and make them stronger. Being a woman, I can feel each and every word of the song. Mandy has actually become the voice of all women and I am proud of working with her.”
The director of the song, Baljinder Mahant, has been associated with the film industry for years. He has been continuously innovating on giving entertainment a new definition. He said, “We want this song to reach every woman of the country, even to the remotest part, so that it becomes her voice. Not only the cruel men, but society, the government and the nation as a whole understand that women are no less than anyone. They are not there to be dominated, disrespected, beaten up, raped or harassed.” The music of the song has been composed by JSL Singh.
