A heartfelt performance, like always, by Puran Chand Wadali left the audience and artists in bliss at the musical gathering held to celebrate the onset of monsoon.
The Padma Shri awardee artist, who was performing for the first time after the demise of his brother Pyarelal Wadali earlier this year, was in a somber mood yet managed to pep up the artists, who were performing on the stage.
“Artists do not have any age or shelf life. When you follow your heart, your ‘kala’ (art), you should do it with all your heart,” he said. Wadali, who was the guest of honour, also encouraged people to bring out the artist in them. “We are living in a time, when we need more artists than any other professionals. If you have a passion for music, let it loose.”
The small musical affair was helmed by group of artists to celebrate musical talent in city. Dr Navpreet Singh, 66, a surgeon and also a musician, also performed along with other known names such as Harinder Sohal. Dr PS Grover, one of the convener for the event, said more such informal gatherings will be held to promote art and culture from the region. “As Wadali ji mentioned, such mehfils encourage cultural ethos as well as keep us connected to our roots,” he said.
