To commemorate sacrifices made by Rani Laxmi Bai a programme titled ‘Balidan Divas’ was organised at DAV College, Hathi Gate, under the aegis of Rani Jhansi Society, run by senior BJP leader and former health minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla, here today.

DIG (border range) Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh was the chief guest at the function. Speaking on the occasion he said Rani Laxmi Bai fought bravely to liberate India from the British rule.

While addressing 300 students, who are undergoing tailoring and stitching training course, run by Rani Jhansi Society, the DIG said self employment would help in improving condition of women in patriarchal society.

A play based on the biography of Rani Jhansi, ‘Khoob lari mardari’ was also staged on the occasion. Society also honoured three women residents for their achievements and setting an example for others.

Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam presented certificates and stitching machines to as many as 100 women, who had completed the course run by society recently.
