Rape case lodged after 10 yrs

AMRITSAR: Following the directions of the National Commission for Women (NCW), the Amritsar rural police have booked a man for allegedly raping a woman in Bhakha Tara Singh village, falling under the Ajnala police station, a decade ago.

Following the directions of the National Commission for Women (NCW), the Amritsar rural police have booked a man for allegedly raping a woman in Bhakha Tara Singh village, falling under the Ajnala police station, a decade ago.

According to the victim, the incident occurred over 10 years ago when she was a bachelor. The police have summoned the victim for recording her statement under Section 164 of the CrPc in the court.

The victim submitted her complaint to the NCW while alleging that Baljit Singh of Bhakha Tara Singh had raped her after dragging her to a marriage palace. She had gone for answering the nature’s call when the incident took place over 10 years ago. She alleged that she was about to be married so she did not tell anyone about it fearing social stigma.

According to her, the accused has now started blackmailing her so she lodged her complaint.

Amandeep Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said the commission ordered the police to register an FIR first and then begin investigation.He said as the incident occurred over a decade ago, the victim was asked to come on Monday for getting her statement recorded in a court. For now, a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Baljit Singh. Further investigation is under way, he added.

The case

A woman has alleged that Baljit Singh of Bhakha Tara Singh village raped her 10 years ago while she was going to answer the nature's call. According to her, she didn't complained at that time as she was about to be married. Now, the accused has started harassing her so she approached the National Commission for Women for action.
