Rights body seeks removal of Guriqbal from DSP’s post

Khalra Mission Organisation (KMO), a human rights body, seeks removal of Guriqbal Singh, grandson of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, from the post of DSP.

While addressing the media, advocate Jagdeep Singh, spokesperson for the KMO, said the recruitment of former CM’s grandson on compassionate grounds was unethical and a violation of rules.

Jagdeep Singh said: “Guriqbal belongs to a well-off family in which all members are enjoying reputed status in politics. Beant Singh was a major human rights violator, who executed murders of innocents. Capt Amarinder Singh had admitted in his biography that Beant Singh conducted fake encounters of 21 militants, who were surrendered in front of the then Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar with his efforts. Now, Amarinder is awarding the job to his grandson, which is unethical.”

The KMO demanded job for Parveen Kumar, brother of a victim of fake police encounter, Gulshan Kumar. Jagdeep Singh said Gulshan, a resident of Tarn Taran, was rounded up by the police in 1992 and killed in a fake encounter. He was innocent. His father Chaman Lal fought a long battle and the case is now sub- judice in the court. The government should provide a job to Parveen, brother of the victim.

Meanwhile, Parveen said he filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and challenged the recruitment of Guriqbal in the court.
