Amritsar, July 11
Rotary Club, Amritsar, elected its new president, Indu Aurora. The club also organised awareness activities for underprivileged children with a team of volunteers visiting slum areas and rag pickers’ colonies.
Celebrating Annapurna Day with them, the club volunteers, led by Aurora, distributed refreshments and goodies to the children of slums located at Majitha Road. Informing about more such activities, Aurora said the club would initiate awareness camps with regards to healthcare, nutrition and sanitation in these areas and also put up medical camps.
“The idea is to engage these people, especially children, with our activities. We have tied up with several volunteers, who will assist us with infrastructure and finance support. We were shocked to see the unhygienic conditions prevailing in these colonies and will also focus on skill development programmes, all in due time,” said Indu Aurora.
Rotarian Kiran Duggal and rotarian Aman Sekhon, who is also the secretary of the club’s civil lines wing, were also accompanying the new president. — TNS
