Amritsar, January 17
The Railway Police Force (RPF) today reinstated sub-inspector SI) Amandeep after keeping him suspended for not releasing arms to his colleagues during the visit of general manager, Northern Railway, AK Puthia, at the Amritsar railway station on January 15.
While confirming the development, Assistant Security Commissioner RK Savale said RPF officials were found carrying out the duty at the railway station without arms. Upon inquiring it was found that the sub-inspector did not permit the release of arms.
Notably, the RPF has been put on a high alert in the border city in the wake of the terror strike at air base in Pathankot. It prompted even RPF Director General RR Verma to visit the station to review security arrangements on January 7.
Deployment of RPF jawans without arms at a sensitive and vulnerable public place like railway station prompted higher officials to take note of the lapse. The act was even contrary to the claims of the Director General to have increased surveillance at the station.
