SAD (A) opens new office

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) opened its Majha-Doaba zone office at Tej Nagar here today. Party president Simranjit Singh Mann and its USA unit president Resham Singh, along with other leaders, were present.

Mann said, “This day holds significance as on May 1, 1994 all Akali factions had joined hands on the instruction of then then acting Jathedar of Akal Takht. Later, SAD (Amritsar) was constituted and all Sikh leaders, including Surjit Singh Barnala, Jagdev Singh Talwandi, Col Jasmer Singh Bala, Bhai Manjit Singh, Captain Amarinder Singh and Gurcharan Singh Tohra, had committed to work for an independent state for the Sikhs.

The leaders have now forgotten their commitment and are now working against it, he said. — TNS
