Though the city boasts of having five satellite hospitals, the X-ray facility is being provided at any of the hospitals at present.
Incidentally, all these hospitals have X-ray machines as well as radiographers to operate them but they are not getting the supply of X-ray strips.
The satellite hospitals were purposely opened on the periphery of the city to provide better medical services to the residents of areas adjacent to the city.
However, in the absence of proper facilities at these institutions, the patients still have to travel extra distance to reach the Civil Hospital or Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
Talking to Amritsar Tribune, Civil Surgeon Dr Jai Singh said after assessing the problem faced by the patients at these hospitals, they had sent a request to ensure proper supply of material so that the required service can be reinitiated.
“During a recent visit to all of these hospitals, we came to know that the satellite hospitals do have machinery and trained men for conducting the scans,” he said.
He said if the facility is started at these hospitals, the rush of patients at other hospitals in the city would be reduced to an extent and people would get the facility in their respective areas.
Residents of the areas in which these satellite hospitals are located said it would be a boon for their localities.
Harbhajan Singh of Kale Ganupur village said, “It would be very helpful as people have to travel to the city. We also demand that the facility to conduct C-section surgeries for child delivery should also be started here.”
Presently, satellite hospitals are providing medical services for normal child deliveries and not C-section deliveries, he added.
