Seven booked for domestic violence

The Mattewal police have booked seven persons, including two women, for domestic violence and demanding dowry. Complainant Amandeep Kaur, wife of Ranjodh Singh, alleged that the accused not only threw her out of the house after thrashing her but also tried to kill her daughter by poisoning her.
The police have registered a case under Sections 498-A and 328 of the IPC following a probe. Besides Ranjodh Singh, his brother Dharminder Singh, father Balwinder Singh, Jagir Singh, Ranjit Kaur, Gurvail Singh and Balraj Kaur, all residents of Dakoha in Gurdaspur, have been booked.
Amandeep Kaur lodged a complaint with police on June 1 stating that she was married to Ranjodh Singh in February 2013. She said that the accused started demanding a car after the marriage. She alleged she faced mental and physical harassment. The couple has a four-year-old daughter, Gursirat Kaur. “On April 12, they thrashed and forced me out of the house. They also tried to kill Gursirat Kaur by giving her poison,” she alleged.
A probe was conducted by the Majitha DSP who recommended registration of a case after taking legal opinion of district attorney. The police have registered a case in this connection. No arrest has been made so far.
