The Jallianwala Bagh Shaheed Parivar Samiti today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds which were meant for the development of the historic garden. The association also sought constitution of a new committee comprising family members of the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Rajya Sabha Member Shwet Malik has raised the issue of the dismal state of affairs at the historic garden and the memorial. The light and sound show with actor Amitabh Bachchan’s voice that was installed in the garden for the visitors has been discontinued while the souvenir shop opened recently was also on the brink of closure.

Malik had pointed out that around Rs 11 crore were released for the development of the historic garden. However, there was no accountability and clarity over the usage of these funds. The committee headed by Bhushan Behal today urged the government to hold a CBI probe into the alleged embezzlement of the funds. “A CBI probe is necessary for inquiring into the bungling of the government grants to the historic garden,” he said while adding that the government should take steps and constitute a new committee, which should include members from the committee.
