Finally, five container toilets have been handed over to the Municipal Corporation under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. These toilets have been installed at Chheharta, Gujjarpura, Majitha Road, IDH market and Shakti Nagar.
Adopting an innovative idea, the government has used worn out shipment containers and converted them into toilets. All the sanitary fittings and modern equipments are already installed in the toilets.
The MC will only give water and sewerage connection to these container toilets.
In addition to that one public toilet is installed at bus stand, funded by Tata steel under its pilot project.
Raju Chowan, Municipal Health Officer, said, “These container toilets are very convenient to install. They can be shifted from one place to another. We will arrange more of such toilets for the improvement of sanitation.”
Apart from this, the MC has identified 45 locations in the city where public toilets will be constructed. As per the proposal under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the MC can construct public toilets at a distance of every 500 metre.
There is also a proposal to construct community toilets in areas where sewerage facilities are not available. Another survey has been conducted to identify the requirement of community toilets.
