As a mark of respect to the symbols of faith in the Sikhism, a Ludhiana resident, Harpreet Singh Sandhu, has come up with an idea of capturing the visuals in the form of a calendar. The calender for 2018 he came up with was released by SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal here today.

An advocate by profession, Sandhu said his last year’s journey to various historical gurdwaras had prompted him to prepare the table calendar dedicated to the 10th Guru and his philosophy.

During his journey, Sandhu visited Gurdwara Thanda Burj, Fatehgarh Sahib; Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, New Delhi; Gurdwara Jyoti Saroop, Fatehgarh Sahib; Gurdwara Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib; Gurdwara Damdama Sahib, Sri Muktsar Sahib; Gurdwara Garhi Sahib, Sri Machhiwara Sahib; and Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

“My idea was to prepare a document which can be easily approachable. I thought a table calendar could be distributed conveniently among institutions, offices and other places. Especially, the young generation is not much familiar with religious terminologies. With this calendar, they will come know about it,” Sandhu said.

“The calendar has a brief description of religious symbols, such as Chaur Sahib that is used to fan Guru Granth Sahib as a mark of reverence, meaning of Ik Oamkar, symbols of Miri Piri, Palki Sahib (royal palanquin), Rumala Sahib of Guru Granth Sahib, quoits, arrows and swords of Khalsa Army of God, Nishan Sahib and Kotha Sahib Sukhasan Asthan,” he added.

Sandhu paid his gratitude to Dr SS Johal, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, and Dr Sujit Patar who guided him with their suggestions in his noble venture.

SGPC Additional Secretary Balwinder Singh Jodhasingh, SGPC president’s personal assistant Jagjit Singh Jaggi, Golden Temple manager Sulakhan Singh and MP Gurjit Singh Aujla were also present on the occasion.
