Special programmes to pay tributes to Rani Lakshmi Bai

AMRITSAR: Remembering and commemorating freedom fighter Rani Lakshmi Bai, the Rani Jhansi Social Society today announced a series of awareness and celebratory programmes that will be held in the city.

Remembering and commemorating freedom fighter Rani Lakshmi Bai, the Rani Jhansi Social Society today announced a series of awareness and celebratory programmes that will be held in the city. Prof Lakshmikanta Chawla, convener of these festival, and patron, Rani Jhansi Social Society, addressed the gathering at Virsa Vihar, informing about the programmes.

MP, Rajya Sabha, Shwait Malik, was the guest of honour during the programme that saw participation from members associated with the society. Malik also announced a donation of Rs 5 lakh for the campaign of the society to provide sanitary napkins to women in rural areas and under privileged sections of society.

In his address, Malik said the society every year celebrates the spirit of Rani Lakshmi Bai by sending out a message to every woman to be strong and fearless like her.

He said girls should take inspiration from her life and understand that they could achieve anything with dedication and hard work, and doing the right thing.

The society will also celebrate June 18, the birth anniversary of Rani Lakshmi Bai, with a special awareness programme engaging women and young girls from city and peripheries. The event also saw colourful cultural performances by schools students and Goevrnment Senior Secondary School won the first prize in that category. All participating girls were also awarded with special prize as well. Free sewing machines and certificates were also given away to girls.
