Actor Harish Verma along with the star cast of his upcoming film “Vapsi” promoted the film in the city today. The film is based on youngsters, who migrated abroad during the militancy period in Punjab and their struggle to come back to their homeland.
Playing the role of a hockey player, Verma said he would be seen in a completely different role in the film. “I play an athlete, who has to leave his home under some awkward circumstances and settle abroad. The helplessness of leaving everything you love behind and start a new life in an unknown land, with almost no familiarity has been shown with sensitivity and brings out a lot of emotions. I am sure that this film, with its different subject and its treatment, will appeal to the audience.”
Verma will be sharing screen space with bollywood baddie Gulshan Grover, who previously, too, made his appearance in Punjabi cinema. He will be seen in the role of an NRI, who, too, suffers a similar fate. The film’s director, Rakesh Mehta, said the film brings out the plight of the youth during the time of militancy, when they had to abandon their homes and future. “Thousands of Punjabi youth had fled their homes, others fell a prey to terrorism and police atrocities and had no other option but to leave the country. The film talks about serious and important aspects, without the melodrama.” Mehta has written the story and screenplay of the film as well.
The film stars Dep Mandeep, Sameksha Singh, Gurinder Makhna and K aran Singh among others. It releases on June 3 worldwide.
