A film that promises to touch chords and make you talk to your inner self, ‘Zubaan’, will mark Vicky Kaushal’s second innings in Bollywood. The ‘Masaan’ actor visited Amritsar as part of promotional tour in Punjab ahead of the film’s release on March 4. He was accompanied by his co-actor Sarah Jane Dias and director Mozez Singh.

Technically, his debut fim, ‘Zubaan’ will present Vicky playing a Punjabi character, journey of a boy who hates music, but eventually connects with himself through it. “I signed ‘Zubaan’ much before I was offered ‘Masaan’. It’s a simple and honest thought not just a film. It was really difficult playing a character, who hates music because in real life, music drives me,” said the young actor.

The film is primarily a musical love story with Sarah Jane Dias playing a musician. With a title that describes the film as journey of a young man from noise to music, Sarah says she plays the inspiration of that transformation in the film.

She says, “As a musician, I found it easy to fit into my character of a free spirited girl, who inspires the hero to identify with himself. It was lovely working in the film as I love music.”

A first film for director Mozez Singh, he says, “‘Zubaan’ is close to my heart as I had to travel extensively to find the right locations and get the right people for the film. I travelled through Punjab to find locations, like a gurdwara where the film begins. After traveling to the 60 locations in 10 days, we found one in Pathankot.”

Vicky says his life after ‘Massan’ had been overwhelming. He feels ‘Zubaan’ will present him in a differet avatar, with a turban and looking all Punjabi. He says, “It was strange to switch off from my character in ‘Masaan’ and get into the ‘Zubaan’ character. But eventually, an actor has to empty himself and make an easy transit from one film to another.”

Vicky will be seen in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ and ‘Marmarziyan’ next.
