The girls attended the opening ceremony of the training with their family members. Former Cabinet minister and the patron of Shakti Mahila Sahayta Kendra, Laxmi Kanta Chawala, said the centre had imparted training to over 300 girls from the area so far.

Chawla said girls could be empowered only if they were made capable of earning their livelihood besides helping out their family. “Economic independence is the key to women empowerment. The girls will be gifted sewing machines on completion of their training,” she said, adding that the families should marry their daughters only to such boys who do not consume alcohol and drugs.
