A public lecture on ‘moving from impunity to equality, conflict to resolution’ was delivered by renowned author and human rights activist Sanjoy Hazarika at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The lecture was organised by the Literary Club of the university.
GNDU Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over the event and Dean Students’ Welfare Dr SS Behl and Registrar Dr KS Kahlon were also present.
Hazarika explained the geographical location of the north-eastern states. He acquainted the audience with a number of tribes and languages spoken in these states, which makes them diverse and rich.
He also highlighted about his initiative of providing 15 boat ambulances and professional healthcare to people in remote areas of the northeast states, which didn’t get such facilities due to the locational disadvantages. Talking about transition, he said, “A visible transition is taking place where the youth is rebelling against the prejudices and trying to connect the northeast with the rest of India.”
The lecture was followed by the screening of Hazarika’s documentary film “Rambuai: Mizoram’s ‘Trouble’ Years”, which received appreciation from the audience.
