Suresh Mahajan, the newly-appointed chairman of the Amritsar Improvement Trust, took charge of his office today and received a grand welcome by his supporters. Mahajan is also a councillor from ward number 21 and is holding the office for the first time.
The welcome celebrations for Mahajan lasted for over an hour where Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora was also in attendance. Immediately after joining office, Mahajan officiated a meeting to get a brief on the ongoing development projects with officials of the Improvement Trust. A self-confessed workaholic, Mahajan said his priority would be to complete the development projects in time. “As a councillor, I have always given priority to people-to-people interaction and I will focus on completing the ongoing projects within one or two months. Also, I have decided to organise public meetings to get suggestions from residents about their expectations and have assigned two hours in my day from 3 pm to 5 pm for these public meets. Anyone, who has some grievance or suggestion, which can contribute towards development in the city, is welcome to come and see me at my office,” he said.
The 52-year-old BJP councillor said he was open to new ideas about the overall development of the city under the trust. “I plan to work in two shifts, two hours in the morning and evening dedicated to my duties as a councillor of my ward and the rest of my time devoted to my responsibilities as the chairman of the Improvement Trust,” he said.
