Surprise check at Patti jail

Tarn Taran: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal and SSP Darshan Singh Mann conducted a surprise check at the Sub Jail, Patti, 25 km from here, on Tuesday. No objectionable material was found. SSP Darshan Singh Mann said a team of 150 cops, accompanied by SPs and DSPs, conducted the check. The SSP said every barrack, bathroom and room was checked but noting objectionable was found.  The officials heard grievances of the inmates. OC

2 booked for possessing drugs

Tarn Taran: The Patti City police have booked a couple for possessing drugs. Harwinder Singh has been lodged in the local jail. His wife Manpreet Kaur of Jaswant Singh locality met him in the jail and allegedly gave him a packet. Suspecting something fishy, the jail guards took the packet and found 4.5 gm of some powder, which they feel is heroin. A case under Sections 52-A of the Prison Act, and 21, 29, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them. OC
