Amritsar, April 5

A teenage boy drowned in the Upper Bari Doab canal here on Wednesday. Another youth was rescued by passersby. The deceased has been identified as Chintu (17). His father Santosh Kumar said he resided in Ekta Nagar on Jhabal road and had come along with his family to clean a flat near New Amritsar that had been allotted to him recently. He said Chintu and his friend Bishna went to the canal for relaxation. The police registered the case under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem examination.
