Tehsildar, 11 others booked for fraud

A tehsildar, a kanungo and a patwari among 12 persons have been booked for allegedly registering a large chunk of land on their name fraudulently 25 years ago. The 300 kanal and 18 marla of land belongs to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa (now Government) High School, Kairon, 15 km from here.
The police said the accused had been identified as Gurcharan Singh, the then tehsildar, UIdham Singh, the then kanungo, Parkash Chand (the then patwari) besides Lakhbir Singh Shakri, Gurbax Singh (SAD sarpanch), Devinder Singh, Manjit Singh, Harnek Singh, Gurinder Singh, Gurnam Singh and Surjit Singh.
Three of them have been arrested while others are at large. The issue was raised by Harminder Singh Gill, MLA, Patti, in Punjab Vidhan Sabha following which the state government conducted an inquiry into it. Patti DSP Sohan Singh investigated the case. Donors of the area had donated the land to the school which the accused grabbed, the police said.
Nirmal Singh, District Education Officer (Secondary), had lodged the complaint about the forgery following which senior police officials conducted the investigation.
