Following a complaint lodged by the Municipal Corporation authorities regarding damaging of roads by tent houses, the police have booked two tent-house owners in this connection. They were identified as Dhawan Tent and Light House near Nayyar Hospital on the Lawrence road and Kumar Tent and Light House in the Basant Nagar area. Both have been booked under sections 3 and 4 of the Punjab Prevention of the Defacement of Property Act. No arrest has been made so far.
The complaint was lodged by the MC’s estate officer, Anil Arora. He stated to the police that the accused tent-house owners erected iron poles in the middle of newly laid road for installing tents.
MC Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal said it was necessary to send a strong and clear message to the offenders who did not spare a thought regarding damaging the roads for their programmes. He said the tents were erected by employees of a tent house and it was the responsibility of the owner.
He said as per the rules, the people or any organisation requires permission to organise any event whether it is religious or personal at a public place. However, most of the time, nobody bothered to take the mandatory permission. Such organisers also dump the waste at the site itself. Organising such programmes on the road also led to traffic congestion, he added.
