Traditional brass utensils have made a comeback in kitchens. Now, a variety of such items is available at various stores in the city.
Interestingly, people are also taking a keen interest in purchasing the metal that has been used traditionally at homes. But it was replaced by ceramic, glass and steel ones with a passage of time.
There are a plenty of options to choose the metal as it is available in dinner sets, cups, jugs and plates among others.
Pankaj Sachdev, a shopkeeper on the Majitha road, said, “The trend has gone up, especially, after Diwali. I have sold a lot of pieces. Residents are also considering it as gift options to the newlyweds.”
Avinash Abrol, a housewife, said, "People had stopped purchasing brass utensils once steel arrived, but of late, people have been purchasing it.”
Most of the people are buying it as part of having something traditional. A shopkeeper said, “People are purchasing them to give a traditional Punjabi look to their kitchen. The same can be used as showpieces.”
On an average, the range starts from Rs 200 and goes up to Rs 1,500. The price of a plate is Rs 250 and for a pan, one has to shell out Rs 1,200.
Nitin Sharma, owner of Sharma Brothers Enterprises in the Putlighar area, said, “Indeed, they are in demand. NRIs are also buying them from us. There are a number of health benefits one can reap out of them. The customer is attracted to its design, shape and the feel of having a vintage item in one’s house.”
Apart from this, residents are always going in for copper utensils such as jugs and pans.
