Two cell phones found in jail
Amritsar: In yet another seizure, the Amritsar Central Jail authorities confiscated two mobile phones found abandoned in the premises of the high security prisons. The seizure was made during a search operation. A case has been registered in this regard. The police said the call details of the mobile phones would be analysed to identify persons to whom these belong.
Synthetic strings seized
The city police have arrested four persons in three separate instances and confiscated banned synthetic strings used for flying kites from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Shemsher Singh, alias Bana, of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Jagjit Singh, alias Jita, of Tej Nagar, Gurpartap Singh, alias Kali, of Dashmesh Nagar and Vijay Kumar, alias Gama, of Dashmesh Nagar, near Jora Phatak here. Urdu classes from January 2
The district administration is going to start Urdu classes in the city. It will be a six-month course. The classes will begin from January 2. Forms are available at the district language office. TNS
Teachers oppose election duty
The Government Teachers Union has demanded that they should not be deputed on election duties because it takes a toll on the education of children. The District Education Department has ordered the teachers who didn’t perform their election duty to appear before it. TNS
133 travel agencies, IELTS centres registered
Amritsar: DC Kamaldeep Singh Sangha in a statement issued here today said till now 133 travel agents and IELTS coaching centres have got registered with the district. The list of these agencies was available on the administration’s website while these lists would also be put up at notice boards of SDM offices and sewa kendras. Sangha appealed to people to only approach these approved travel agents. —TNS
Notebooks distributed
Amritsar: The kora kagaz club of the BBK DAV College for Women, here, organised a one-day camp at Government High School, Qila Jeevan Singh. The team distributed 150 notebooks prepared from unused papers in the college among needy students. The team members interacted with the students of the school. Kajal Tiwari, club’s president and a student of MSc Computer Science, addressed the students and explained them about the ‘kora kagaz’ project, a community development initiative of the college. The project aims to conserve paper and promote its reuse. Principal Pushpinder Walia congratulated the team for their sincere efforts and encouraged them to keep working with the same zeal.
