Shaheed Udham Singh, who is known as the avenger of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, was remembered on his 78th death anniversary here on Wednesday. The revolutionary, who has always remained a source of intrigue for popular culture as well as historians, spent a considerable time of his early life in Amritsar.

Deputy Commissioner Shivdulara Singh Dhillon, along with other administrative officials, paid tributes to the martyr at the Shaheed Udham Singh statue near Jallianwala Bagh.

“He was among the great warriors of freedom struggle, who sacrificed himself so that our future generations can experience liberty, freedom. He put his duty towards his country before his own life. Such icons are inspirational for youth, irrespective of the time we live in,” said Dhillon, while remembering the martyr.

Commemoration ceremonies were held across several schools, colleges and associations dedicated to the martyrs of freedom struggle.
