Amritsar, October 7
With a view to curb bogus voting, the district election office has asked officials to delete the names of voters from the electoral rolls on monthly basis who have passed away.
In a meeting with officials of the Civil Surgeon office, Registrar Death and Birth Registration and others, ADC (D) Vishesh Sarangal asked them to send timely reports of deceased voter’s name so that it could be removed from the electoral rolls.
The ADC stated that delay in deletion of such votes could pose problems at time of different elections as these could be misused by someone. He said that efforts should also be made to get details as address and voter identity card of the deceased and these should be sent to electoral registration offices. — TNS
