Celebrating the launch of new radio channel by All India Radio (AIR) catering to rural border belt, the art gallery hosted renowned artistes from the region for a poetry and folk night. Padma Shri Puran Chand Wadali, who was the guest artiste for the evening, arrived late along with his son, actor-singer Lakhwinder Wadali. The father-son duo, who also share mentor-student relationship also performed in the folk night.
The evening began with a poetry convention with senior Hindi-Urdu poets, including Dr Shakeel Jamali, Dr Nasir naqvi and Dr Vanita among others amusing the audience with their satires and renditions of popular poets. Puran Chand Wadali’s performance was preceded by Sufi performances by Mamta Joshi and Harpeet Singh.
Arvinder Chamak, general secretary of IAFA, said, “It is a very good beginning by AIR to launch an exclusive radio channel for border belt. Catering to both, Punjabi speaking and Urdu loving listeners, the channel will open doors for promoting budding talent from the region as well.”
