A few days after a youth committed suicide, the police have booked his wife and in-laws on abetment to suicide charges.
Sunny Chauhan, a resident of New Mohindra Colony, had hanged himself from the ceiling fan. Marital discord was stated to be the reason behind his taking the extreme step of ending his life.
Jagjt Singh, SHO, Mohkampura police station, said a case under Sections 306, 120-B, 148 and 149, IPC, had been registered following the statement of Rajesh Kumar, father of the deceased.
Among those booked include Sunny’s wife Pooja Verma, her father Kulwinder Verma, Suman Verma, Suraj Verma and Badari Parshad Pardhan and Satwinder Kaur. No arrest has been made so far as the matter was under investigation, he said.
Darshan Lal stated to the police that his son was married to Pooja in February 2015. He said a few days after the marriage, the accused started quarrelling with him and went to her parent’s home in Ludhiana. He said on February 27, the accused had threatened his son and perturbed over this, he ended his life.
The incident had come to light when the owner of the house along with his family was going to pay obeisance at a temple. When he knocked at Sunny’s door to ask him to look after his home in their absence, he was shocked to find his body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Sunny along with his parents and two sisters had shifted to Amritsar from Ludhiana a few days ago. He was upset due to a divorce case, which was filed with a court in Ludhiana. Sunny’s parents and sisters had gone to Ludhiana for some work. He was alone at home when he took the extreme step of ending his life.
