A woman was crushed to death under the wheels of a private bus as she along with her husband was going to a gurdwara to pay homage last evening. The bus belonged to New Mann Travels company and the driver fled leaving the bus behind after the accident.
The deceased’s husband, Manjinder Singh, said he along with his wife, Sukhjinder Kaur, was going to Gurdwara Shaheeda Sahib on foot from his house in Ishwar Nagar.
“When we reached near the Chattiwind gate, a bus coming from the Gilwali side hit my wife from behind. She died on the spot while one more woman walking alongside us was injured,” said Manjinder Singh.
ASI Jatinder Singh of C Division police station said the bus with the registration number PB02AM9979 had been taken into custody. A case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 of the IPC and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered against the bus driver, Harpreet Singh. The ASI said the driver was a resident of Kale Ghanupur village and the police was trying to find him.
