Woman ends life, spouse among 2 booked

Perturbed over the alleged harassment at the hands of her husband and the latter’s sister-in-law, a married woman ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance in Kotla Majha Singh village, falling under Majitha police station here. The victim has been identified as Amanpreet Kaur (35) of Kotla Majh Singh village.
Acting on the statement of her father Satnam Singh, the police have booked her husband Gagandeep Singh and his sister-in-law Rajbir Kaur for abetment of suicide.
Satnam Singh, a resident of 88-Futa road, located at Majitha Road here, stated to the police that Gagandeep had thrashed her a few times after marriage. He alleged that Gagan’s sister-in-law Rajbir Lauren wanted to marry her sister to Gagandeep. Therefore she used to provoke him against Amanpreet Kaur. “Upset over this, she came to us. But Gagandeep’s parents, along with village panchayat, intervened following which she returned to her husband,” the complainant said.
According to Satnam Singh, Amanpreet’s mother-in-law called him on Saturday to inform that Amanpreet Kaur had consumed pesticide after a quarrel with Gagandeep and that she had been rushed to a private hospital.The family immediately rushed to the hospital. Amanpreet succumbed on Tuesday.
Rajbir Singh, investigating officer, said the police had registered a case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC against Gagandeep and Rajbir Kaur. No arrest has been made in this connection till now as the accused are absconding. Raids are on to arrest them, he added.
Allegations
Satnam Singh, father of deceased Amanpreet Kaur (35) of Kotla Majh Singh village, has alleged that the latter's husband Gagandeep had been thrashing her upon the provocation of his sister-in-law Rajbir Kaur.
