A woman was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws for dowry in Bhaini Mattuan village, 20 km from here. The incident took on February 3 but the case was lodged yesterday evening. The injured woman has been identified as Kuljit Kaur (19). She is under treatment at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. She is still critical.
The police have booked three members of her in-laws family after recording her statement.
The police said the accused had been identified as Gurjant Singh, his mother Rajbir Kaur and Sukhdev Singh, a kin. Kuljit was married to Gurjant Singh five months ago. She alleged that he had been torturing her for dowry. On February 3, she was in her bed when the accused allegedly sprinkled kerosene oil and set her ablaze.
A case under Sections 307 and 498-A of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused, the police said.
