The city police nabbed a 20-year-old youth with a rifle here on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Arshdeep Singh Mithu, a resident of Bhalaipur Dogra village. Police officials said Mithu had been associated with infamous gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s gang. However, he doesn’t have any criminal record as no case has been registered against him.
Jagjit Singh Walia, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), said, “We got a tip-off that Arshdeep Singh Mithu was going to meet Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, an associate of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Several teams were constituted to nab him. A checkpoint was installed at Lohgarh to keep a vigil on the movement of miscreants. After seeing the police checkpoint, a pedestrian tried to escape from the spot. The cops chased him down and seized a .12 bore rifle and three cartridges.”
According to Walia, Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, has already been arrested by the Mehta police two days ago. A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against Mithu.
