Amritsar, August 31
Plenty of opportunities to bid for fancy numbers have dampened the enthusiasm to possess eye-catching numbers for automobiles in the district.
District Transport Officer Lovejit Kaur Kalsi said previously auction for the fancy numbers used to be held once a year. Now, auctions are held four to six times a year.
Apparently, this has increased the revenue of the Transport Department from the auction of fancy numbers. The smallest sum for the auction of a fancy number is fixed at Rs 5,000 and the maximum at Rs 5 lakh. Not all numbers fixed at the highest sum are being procured by people. An aficionado of cars and fancy numbers, Sumer Singh Gill, said earlier there used to be a keen competition among the bidders to bid for their favourite number. — TNS
