Congress candidate from Ludhiana-West Bharat Bhushan Ashu is lucky to have a better half who not only participates in his election campaign but also understands the ins and outs of the politics “very well”.

Mamta Ashu, the Congress candidate’s wife, is a councillor and actively takes part in politics along with her husband.

The husband-wife duo is leaving no stone unturned to make a mark in the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections and are known as each other’s support system.

“My family is my source of energy, who asks me to help others,” beams Bharat Bhushan Ashu, adding that if any day he was at home, his wife would point out if he had no work to do, why he was sitting at home and should go out and meet people.

“My public meetings start at 7 am and it is among people that I have my breakfast. I started my political career in 1997 and since then I had been having my breakfast during public meetings,” he says.

Both Mamta and Ashu have their lunch while they are away from home for campaigning and it is at the dinner table that they both meet and discuss the day’s activities and the plan for the next day.

With elections just round the corner, both husband and wife are in the field, meeting people, listening to their grievances and noting down their expectations from government.

“We both are campaigning, but separately. My husband goes out in one area and I am out in another. My brother-in-law Narendra Sharma and sister-in-law Leena are also extending a helping hand in the campaigning. Apart from campaigning, Leena is also taking care of the poll campaign on the social media and providing up to date information on the party candidate’s activities,” said Mamta.

Recently, special meetings of women were organised by Leena during which issues concerning women were discussed and how the Congress plans to give 33 per cent reservation to women.

Mamta is Ashu’s greatest critic while Ashu is Mamta’s guiding force. They both complement each other in a perfect way!
